With recent years bringing flooding, freezes, tornadoes, a derecho, hurricanes – and associated power outages – to Pasadena, PCAC asked county and city officials and two facility reps to describe how government agencies and plants typically prepare for all kinds of natural disasters. The speaker discussed:

  • Roles and responsibilities, phases of preparation, what happens during the event, and recovery.
  • How they assist employees who serve on ride-out crews (and their families) and how they help workers and their families with recovery.
  • What plants do to help the community in the aftermath of natural disasters, and where the resources to do so come from.
  • David Wade, Operations Supervisor Industrial Liaison for Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HCOHSEM), explained how HCOHSEM assists communities and industry during a natural disaster.
  • Azell Carter addressed how the city coordinates with industry and Harris County to provide information and services to the community and industry.
